As part of our Year 13 Business Studies course, students have the opportunity to participate in the Lions Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES).
This is the first year that we have participated in this competition and students were able to show off their entrepreneurial side.
Some of our student businesses...
A group of passionate boys selling handmade chocolates. These beautiful creations contain the most amazing flavoured fillings - rose, blue berry and many more.
Sweetness Memories seized every selling opportunity, even selling most of the first lot of stock to judges at their Dragons Den presentations.
Giveback is different from the other YES teams - instead of focusing on making profits for themselves, they looked at the community and saw a need for school bags and basic stationery.
There are many South Auckland primary students going to school every day without these necessities. Giveback have been creating awareness and fundraising, so they can supply students with school bags and stationary.
This group of entrepreneur was faced with a problem. Not being able to put their umbrella’s into their backpack after walking to school, due to the umbrella being wet. They came up with a waterproof bag that you had several applications. One of its most popular uses for traveler preventing toiletries leaking throughout their luggage. Flume has also had some success this year making the top ten for East Auckland Dragons Den.
MAAD empowers their customers by giving them confidence that their drinks are save to consume. Their product is a test card that indicates if your drink has been spiked by a date rape drug. The cards work by dripping some of your drink on it. If the test strip changes colour you know that your drink is unsafe for consumption.
More about YES
The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) is an experiential programme where students set up and run a real business. Each YES company creates their own product or service and brings this to market.
YES students are supported by a Regional Coordinator, a business mentor and their local business community.
Through The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme, students will:
- Learn about business planning and operations
- Develop a range of personal and business skills
- Consult with and create networks in their community
