Senior Students Study Leave

Our Senior students finish school this Wednesday 17 November to go on study leave for final preparation ahead of their NCEA externa exams.  The NCEA exam schedule is available online https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/assets/qualifications-and-standards/qualifications/ncea/exams-and-portfolios/examination-timetable.pdf.

For students absent from school this Wednesday who are intending to sit an exam – they will need to collect their NZQA admission slip from Mrs Clark (outside the Deputy Principal’s offices) 45 minutes before their first exam starts.

Students must bring their admission slip to the exam along with valid photo identification (eg Student id, Driver’s licence).

NCEA Learner Logins

All students doing NCEA internal and external assessments will need an NZQA learner Login to access their results and qualifications in January.  Students should go to https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/login to either test that their login is working or to set it up.  They will need their NSN number as part of the verification process and should use a personal email address so they can access their account post college.  Access via their Learner Login enables students to see their marked exam papers, do digital exams, and order qualification documents.  Students who need help or are having issues setting or accessing their Learner Logins should visit https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/login-help.

Junior Students Return to School

We are delighted to be able to welcome more students back onsite under Alert Level 3.  To minimise anxiety and ensure students understand the health and safety protocols expected of them, we will stagger their return:

  • Monday 22 November Year 9 students only, 9:00am start.
  • Tuesday 23 November Year 10 students only, 9:00am start.
  • From Wednesday 24 November – both Years 9 and 10 students onsite.

Note: Term 4 concludes for Junior students on Thursday 9 December.

We will also be making some changes to the structure of the school day so that staff and college aged students can drop off and collect their children or younger siblings from school.  The school day will start at 9:00am and finish at 2:30pm:

  • Tutor time          9.00 – 9:15
  • Period 1              9:15 – 10:05
  • Period 2              10:05 – 10:55
  • Interval               10:55- 11:15
  • Period 3              11:15 – 12:05
  • Period 4              12:05 – 12:55
  • Lunch                  12:55 – 1:40
  • Period 5              1:40 – 2:30

We know that learning face-to-face is the best option for our young people. It’s important for them to connect with their friends and teachers and it helps their social, physical, and emotional wellbeing.

Even with the Delta variant, the risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools is low because of all the public health measures we have in place:

  • Face masks are mandatory for everyone onsite.
  • Classrooms are well ventilated.
  • Physical distancing where possible.

In Alert Level 3 , there is an extensive range of mitigating measures that will help to prevent the spread of illness, including COVID-19. These include:

  • Staying home if you are unwell and seeking advice about getting tested.
  • Maintaining good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette.
  • Keeping physically distanced as much as practicable.
  • Keeping classrooms well ventilated.
  • Maintaining a two-metre distance from others when outside.
  • Well-established record keeping.

We would encourage you to talk to your child about what our plans are and why this is happening.

Please note that we’ll continue to support learning from home for those young people who will not be attending classes onsite.

In preparation for our Junior’s return, there will be no online learning on Friday 19 November so we can plan programmes of work for the final three weeks of the term.

Juniors in Britten and Koru Whānau

As Britten and Koru whānau will be used for the NCEA external exams, Years 9-10 students in these two whānau will need to clear out their lockers this Friday 19 November between 8.45am – 10am. Students will need to QR code in, clear out their lockers, then leave immediately. On this occasion, students do not need to wear their school uniform.

Yearbook

Yearbooks can be purchased from the Finance Centre for $25. This cost has been loaded on your child’s account but will be removed if no payment is received by Thursday 18 November. If you wish to transfer a credit over to this cost, please email Angela O’Shaughnessy a.oshaughnessy@bdsc.school.nz to organise this.
