From April 7 to 9, students from the BDSC Orchestra and Jazz Band travelled to Campbell Park Camp in Mangawhai for the Music Camp. We spent two nights and three days at the camp and spent our days improving our music skills. We rehearsed with Ms Treneman, Mr Arthur and Miss Lee. Over the three days we prepared different pieces for performances and everyone had a chance to connect and socialise with others.
The owners, Julie and Charles welcomed us warmly to the site. Sleeping bags and belongings were set out, lasagne was served, rehearsals were scheduled. We excitedly headed to our cabins and were out like a light.
We woke up at 7:30am and had lights out at 10:30pm. We went for walks around the nearby beach with a beautiful view. There were fun activities set up by the teachers. In between rehearsals during the day there was volleyball, trampolines, study breaks, snacks and swings. There was also a very loud and chatty quiz night. Our meals prepared by the teachers were delicious, and for the final night we enjoyed a mouth-watering meal of tacos. In between breaks, we spent meaningful time learning to play and work together.
Overall, it was a delightful and eye-opening experience. After the three days, we had bonded much closer as a group and our music had progressed. It was a chance to make new friends and we hope to make this an annual opportunity.
